Equinor Discovers Gas at Gullfaks South in North Sea

03:19 AM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Equinor (EQNR.OL) and its partners discovered gas at the Gullfaks South field in the North Sea, with recoverable volumes estimated at 500,000 to 1.6 million standard cubic meters of oil equivalent. The Norwegian energy company said Thursday the Askeladden rig was used to drill the well as a sidetrack in connection with a production well. The discovery is within the Gullfaks production license, which is owned by Equinor, Petoro and OMV (OMV.VI).
