German Trade Surplus Narrows in August

02:15 AM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Germany's calendar and seasonally adjusted trade surplus came in at 19.5 billion euros in August, down from the revised 21.6 billion euros a month ago, according to data from the country's Federal Statistical Office published Thursday. Analysts expected a trade surplus of 19 billion euros for the month. Exports edged down 0.8% month over month, compared with the revised 0.5% dip in July and the expected 0.8% gain. Monthly imports were 0.9% higher, against the revised 5.5% drop earlier and the market forecast of 2.8% growth.
