01:20 AM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- China's reported refusal to voluntarily curb its hybrid vehicle exports leaves the European Union to consider unilateral measures to curb imports, London's Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing two diplomats briefed on the discussions. EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič had proposed that Beijing cap hybrid vehicle exports to 15% of the EU market, versus more than a third currently, with retaliatory action such as tariffs possible if China declined, the report said. The European Commission did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
