Insiders Re-Evaluate Their US$3.31m Stock Purchase As Atome Falls To UK£1.5b

Listen to the news

Insiders who bought US$3.31m worth of Atome Plc's (LON:ATOM) stock at an average buy price of US$0.60 over the last year may be disappointed by the recent 45% decrease in the stock. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only US$882.2k.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Atome

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Chairman & Company Secretary Peter Levine bought UK£2.9m worth of shares at a price of UK£0.60 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of UK£0.16. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

Atome insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Insider Ownership Of Atome

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Atome insiders own 26% of the company, currently worth about UK£402m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
