Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) shares closed meaningfully higher on Monday after Elon Musk confirmed that he’s in discussions with the foundry giant over his ambitious Terafab project. Responding on X over the weekend, the billionaire admitted that these were “just discussions” for now, but paired it with “something may come of it.” The comments excited TSMC investors.
At the time of writing, TSMC stock is up more than 50% versus the start of this year.
A Terafab partnership would represent a significant strategic win for TSMC shares.
Aimed at making advanced dedicated chips for Tesla (TSLA), SpaceX (SPCX), and xAI, the multi-billion-dollar project could see a massive new manufacturing facility built in Texas. Industry reports suggest TSMC might either operate the fab directly or integrate the demand into its expanding U.S. footprint, anchoring Musk’s companies as core long-term volume buyers.
Such a deal would reinforce Taiwan Semiconductor’s position as the backbone of global artificial intelligence and automotive hardware, showing that even tech leaders seeking vertical integration must rely on its manufacturing expertise.
Beyond the headline-grabbing Musk comment, TSMC shares remain a compelling buy primarily because of the company’s core operational strengths.
As the primary foundry for titans like Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Broadcom (AVGO), Taiwan Semiconductor is benefiting from persistent demand for its 3nm and newly commercialized 2nm node chips.
Crucially, the firm’s upcoming earnings could prove a major tailwind that unlocks further upside in its stock price.
Consensus is for TSMC to record $4.45 a share of earnings (EPS) for its third financial quarter, which would represent about a 52% growth on a year-over-year basis.
A 0.84% dividend yield on Taiwan Semiconductor makes it an even better buy for income-focused investors in late 2026.
Wall Street analysts also remain bullish as ever on TSMC stock for the remainder of this year.
The consensus rating on Taiwan Semiconductor sits at “Strong Buy,” with price targets as high as $650 indicating potential upside of more than 30% from here.
