On October 2, local time, UN Women released a report saying that the ongoing tense situation in the Middle East region has blocked shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, driving up global food prices and putting pressure on people's livelihoods. The report predicts that by the end of 2026, there may be an additional 22 million people facing food insecurity globally, of which about 53%, or 11.7 million, are women.
