According to several Israeli media reports, on the 2nd, Israel's Central Election Commission requested Minister of National Security Ben Gavel to delete a controversial video he posted on social media. Israel's “Haaretz” reports that a video released earlier this week showed Ben Gerwell confronting a Palestinian prisoner. Ben Gerwell also claimed that he was “proud” to make the latter's conditions of incarceration more difficult. Ben Gavel also threatened the Palestinian with “I'm going to kill you” and “I'm going to execute you.” The report said that the prisoner in question was Hassan Salame, a member of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, and was sentenced to life in prison for being involved in the 1996 attack against Israelis. The petitioner who criticized the video argued that the act of filming the video in the prison violates “the ban on the use of public resources for election campaigns.” The Central Election Commission accepted this view and ruled on the 2nd. The purpose of Ben Gerwell posting this video was “election propaganda, not to act as a deterrent, as Ben Gerwell claimed.” The ruling also stated that Ben-Gerville should pay the petitioner 20,000 NIS legal fees in his personal name, and his political party must also bear the relevant costs. The Knesset elections are scheduled to be held on October 27. According to Israeli media, this will be the first time in nearly 40 years that Israel has held parliamentary elections as planned rather than early.
