New analysis finds home burglaries, stalking, betting related threats and AI abuse increasingly share the same vulnerability: publicly available personal information
DETROIT, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Hush, the luxury private-client digital protection service, released a new report that finds professional athletes and their families are facing a rapidly changing threat environment in which publicly available information is increasingly being used for physical targeting, stalking, harassment and AI enabled impersonation.
The Hush Intelligence Athlete Threat Report 2026 examines 35 publicly documented cases, including 31 incidents from September 2024 through July 20, 2026. It was found that residential targeting was the largest category, followed by stalking and fixated persons, betting-related threats and AI enabled abuse. Hush notes that the public record likely understates the true scale of the problem.
According to Hush client Paul Rapier, Senior Vice President of Information Technology for the Detroit Pistons, "The security perimeter around professional sports has changed. It extends beyond the arena to the home, the family and increasingly the players, the coaches' and the staffs' digital footprint. Teams have to think about protection accordingly."
Key Findings include:
"We keep treating the burglary, the stalker, the threatening bettor and the deepfake as separate problems: they aren't," said Mykolas Rambus, CEO and Co-Founder of Hush. "The common denominator is reconnaissance. It has become extraordinarily easy to learn where someone lives, who is in their family, where they will be and how to reach them."
The report calls for greater focus on the athlete's home, family and digital exposure, along with continuous monitoring and stronger information controls across teams, leagues and player organizations.
The Hush Intelligence Athlete Threat Report 2026 is based on official records, court filings, league and federation statements and established news reporting.
