We'd be surprised if CTI Logistics Limited (ASX:CLX) shareholders haven't noticed that the Company Secretary & Executive Director, Owen Venter, recently sold AU$174k worth of stock at AU$2.90 per share. Equally important, that sale actually reduced their holding by a full 100% which hardly makes us feel bullish about the stock.
Notably, that recent sale by Owen Venter is the biggest insider sale of CTI Logistics shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of AU$2.89. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. CTI Logistics insiders own about AU$109m worth of shares (which is 47% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Looking to the last twelve months, our data doesn't show any insider buying. But since CTI Logistics is profitable and growing, we're not too worried by this. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Case in point: We've spotted 2 warning signs for CTI Logistics you should be aware of.
