Stora Enso to Start Change Negotiations Over Planned Unit Shutdown in Sweden

06:24 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Stora Enso (STEAV.HE, STERV.HE) will initiate change negotiations with an estimated 220 employees as it considers shutting down the cross-laminated timber, or CLT, operations at its Gruvön plant in Sweden by the end of 2026. The closure is expected to impact 80 roles, according to a Tuesday release. The Finnish forest industry company is planning to shut down CLT production due to sluggish market conditions and limited prospects of sustainable profitability, and focus on Gruvön plant's sawmill operations instead. Stora Enso added that final decisions about employment and the plant's operations will only be made after the conclusion of the negotiations.
