Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) stock fell sharply Monday as investors took profits following a strong monthly rally and broader technology-sector weakness outweighed recent AI-chip and partnership developments.
The stock dropped nearly 7% as the Technology sector declined 1.3% and the S&P 500 fell 0.7%.
The pullback came without a single new negative company-specific headline, pointing instead to broader selling pressure and investor positioning after Qualcomm’s recent gains.
Qualcomm spent last week strengthening its push into premium, on-device artificial intelligence at its Snapdragon Summit.
The company introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and higher-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, targeting flagship Android smartphones with more AI processing directly on devices.
Qualcomm also unveiled an AI coprocessor that brings technology from its emerging data-center business into smartphones.
The new AI-focused Snapdragon updates reinforce Qualcomm’s effort to make advanced AI capabilities a larger part of its premium smartphone strategy.
Qualcomm also renewed its global patent license agreement with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
The renewed agreement takes effect April 1, 2027, extending an important licensing relationship as Qualcomm continues expanding into new markets while maintaining its position in smartphones.
