European Commission to Propose Delaying Methane Emissions Rules

10:39 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European Commission confirmed plans to propose a postponement of the European Union's regulation to cut methane emissions. A commission spokesperson told MT Newswires on Monday that the work is now ongoing at the "technical level," without providing further details. The regulation was set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027. The planned postponement follows calls from governments, including France and the US, to roll back or pause the policy.
