The Zhitong Finance App learned that MongoDB (MDB.US) shares fell more than 25% on Monday after the company's CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai (Chirantan “CJ” Desai) suddenly left his job and will go to Meta Platforms (META.US) to lead its newly established enterprise platform business.

Desai will be Meta's newly established Chief Corporate Platform Officer and will report directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Prior to joining MongoDB, Desai worked as an executive at ServiceNow (NOW.US).

In response, the MongoDB board of directors appointed Dev Ittycheria (Dev Ittycheria) as interim president and CEO. The board of directors has initiated a formal succession search process and hired the assistance of an executive headhunting company. Itticeria served as MongoDB's President and CEO from 2014 to 2025.

“I am honored to return as President and CEO of MongoDB,” Italia said. “I had the privilege of leading this company for over a decade and helping make MongoDB the global enterprise it is today. I know the company, employees, and customers very well, and am confident about future opportunities. I look forward to working with the leadership team and thousands of outstanding employees around the world to continue to create excellent value for our customers by acting quickly and focusing on execution.”

Board Chairman Tom Killalea (Tom Killalea) added: “He knows the company very well, has been an active board member for the past year, and will be taking office immediately to ensure a smooth transition.”

MongoDB has reaffirmed its results guidance for the third quarter and the full year of fiscal year 2027.
