According to reports, the Japanese government held a closed meeting of a panel of experts composed of 17 members on Monday. At the end of the meeting, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said, “Strengthening Japan's intelligence capabilities is an urgent priority.” Her goal is to establish an independent intelligence agency similar to the US Central Intelligence Agency by March 2028. As a first step, Japan established a new National Intelligence Service in July of this year.
