A joint venture with Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation, a smaller affiliate of TSMC, is considering building a second chip manufacturing plant in Singapore to meet growing demand. VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a joint venture between World Advanced and NXP Semiconductors of the Netherlands Chairman of the Board and Chairman of World Advanced Chairman Fang Lue said in an interview that the new factory may produce chips with more advanced technology than the first factory in Singapore. Demand for artificial intelligence services and data centers that support their operation is rising, causing a shortage of global semiconductor supply, even as leading manufacturers such as TSMC continue to expand production. This boom has prompted Taiwanese semiconductor companies to go overseas to build new production lines, and Singapore is one of the regions attracting global investment. According to the strategy, “The shortage of supply will continue for some time. We should have built two factories here at once.” World Advanced held an inauguration ceremony for the first chip factory in eastern Singapore on Monday. Construction of the plant began in late 2024, and the company estimates a total investment of $7.8 billion. The strategy did not estimate the amount of investment for a potential second plant. He said, “It's still too early to talk about the budget, and we haven't decided what process technology we will use. Different technology solutions will have a huge impact on the total investment scale.”
