UBS Moving Base to Be Pricier Than Obeying Swiss Lawmakers, Minister Says

06:00 AM EDT, 09/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- UBS Group (UBSG.SW) moving its headquarters from Switzerland would be more costly for the bank than meeting higher capital requirements, Bloomberg News reported Sept. 26, citing Swiss Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter's interview with a local newspaper. The lender's departure would also be legally complex, Keller-Sutter told Schweiz am Wochenende. The group is considering merging with a foreign bank among other ways to avoid planned Swiss regulations, which would require UBS to support its foreign subsidiaries with more equity capital. The proposal, which Keller-Sutter deems "reasonable and easily manageable for UBS," will next be reviewed by the Swiss lower house. UBS did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
