India's market regulators will implement comprehensive rule revisions to allow high-net-worth individuals to invest in overseas securities and the US$463 billion portfolio management industry for the first time, and to short stock options. The Securities and Exchange Commission of India said after the board meeting on Thursday that it will also allow such funds to invest in unlisted debt securities, with an exchange derivatives exposure of up to 1.25 times the client's assets. Portfolio managers can also hold unhedged short positions within the limits set by the regulation, which is not disclosed by the regulator.
