PharmaMar Lands Marketing Approval for Small Cell Lung Cancer Therapy in UK

11:26 PM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- PharmaMar (PHM.MC) received new marketing authorization from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in the UK for Zepzelca, or lurbinectedin, as the treatment of adults with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer. Alongside atezolizumab, Zepzelca was approved as a maintenance therapy for adults whose cancer has not advanced after first-line induction therapy with atezolizumab, carboplatin, and etoposide, according to a Wednesday release. The Spanish biopharmaceutical company's intravenous infusion was cleared on the back of a study of 483 adults, which showed that lurbinectedin in combination with atezolizumab as maintenance treatment prolonged the average life of patients to 13.2 months, compared to 10.6 months with just atezolizumab.
