Selling Fujing Holdings Shares at a Lower Price Than Current Market Value May Have Been a Costly Mistake for Insiders

Listen to the news

Despite the fact that Fujing Holdings Co., Limited's (HKG:2497) value has dropped 12% in the last week insiders who sold CN¥5.6m worth of stock in the past 12 months have had less success. Given that the average selling price of CN¥0.56 is still lower than the current share price, insiders would probably have been better off keeping their shares.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Fujing Holdings

The Founder, Yonggang Zhang, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$5.6m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.56 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (HK$0.46). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Yonggang Zhang was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Fujing Holdings insiders own 70% of the company, currently worth about HK$160m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
