Roche Says Sefaxersen Lowered Patients' Proteinuria in Late-stage Kidney Study

01:47 AM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Roche (RO.SW) said Wednesday that once-monthly subcutaneous injection sefaxersen met the primary endpoint of a phase 3 study after it helped reduce proteinuria in adults with primary IgA nephropathy, a progressive kidney disease. Prespecified interim data from the late-stage Imagination study showed that sefaxersen demonstrated statistically significant and clinically meaningful proteinuria reduction at 37 weeks, compared with placebo. Proteinuria, or protein in the urine, is a sign of kidney damage. The drug candidate's safety and tolerability profile remained in line with previously reported data. The Swiss drugmaker plans to share the interim results with health authorities, while the study will continue to evaluate changes in patients' kidney function over two years.
