Kinergy Up 12%, But Some Insiders Miss Out

Simply Wall St·09/22/2026 22:07:03
Listen to the news

Despite the fact that Kinergy Corporation Ltd. (HKG:3302) stock rose 12% last week, insiders who sold S$1.5m worth of stock in the previous 12 months are likely to be better off. Holding on to stock would have meant their investment would be worth less now than it was at the time of sale. Thus selling at an average price of S$0.45, which is higher than the current price, may have been the best decision.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Kinergy

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Group Financial Controller & Executive Director, Kim Kah Tay, sold HK$545k worth of shares at a price of HK$0.43 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is HK$0.34. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

All up, insiders sold more shares in Kinergy than they bought, over the last year. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Kinergy insiders own 41% of the company, worth about HK$126m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The Kinergy Insider Transactions Indicate?

The fact that there have been no Kinergy insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the Kinergy insiders selling. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. To that end, you should learn about the 2 warning signs we've spotted with Kinergy (including 1 which doesn't sit too well with us).

For the purposes of this article, insiders are those individuals who report their transactions to the relevant regulatory body. We currently account for open market transactions and private dispositions of direct interests only, but not derivative transactions or indirect interests.
