On September 21, 2026, the fourth meeting of the China-Korea Maritime Affairs Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism was held in Tianjin. The relevant maritime departments of the two countries sent personnel to attend the conference. The two sides held separate plenary meetings and working group meetings on maritime order and practical cooperation to exchange views on sea-related matters between China and South Korea. Both sides agree that sea-related matters are an important part of Sino-South Korea relations, and they should continue to be guided by the important consensus of the two heads of state and adhere to the purpose and goal of building the Yellow Sea into a sea of peace, friendship, and cooperation. The two sides should make good use of the sea-related dialogue mechanism, strengthen dialogue and communication, properly manage differences, advance maritime boundary delimitation negotiations, and further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in practical fields such as defense, law enforcement, fishery, scientific research, environmental protection, shipping, search and rescue, and the ocean and the polar regions. The two sides are willing to further closely involve the coordination of multilateral maritime affairs and maintain a fair and reasonable international maritime order based on international law. The two sides agreed in principle to hold the 5th meeting of the China-Korea Maritime Affairs Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism in South Korea next year.
