Volkswagen Workers Join Automotive Industry Action Day in Germany

10:35 AM EDT, 09/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Volkswagen's (VOW.F) Germany-based workers joined scheduled protests among automotive workers on Monday to call for job security after the carmaker slashed its 2026 operating margin outlook, Bloomberg News reported the same day. The demonstration is part of 280 nationwide demonstration events that IG Metall announced on Sept. 17 to demand job and factory protection in the industry. Bloomberg News said employees of Mercedes-Benz Group (MBG.F), BMW (BMW.F), Audi and Porsche AG (P911.F) also joined the action day. It added that the union is expected to detail its wage proposals on Wednesday. On Sept. 18, Volkswagen trimmed its full-year operating return on sales forecast to up to 1% from 4% to 5.5% previously, due to a declining market environment, particularly in China, and an accelerated demand shift for battery-electric vehicles.
