Gemini Space Station (NASDAQ: GEMI) jumped 31.2% today in a rally that stretched across the crypto market. Gemini investors are hoping a new 5-year exemption for tokenized stock opens up a substantial new line of business for the company.

The SEC opened the doors to tokenized stocks

After the CLARITY Act -- a bill that would have provided a comprehensive framework for digital assets -- failed to advance in the Senate on Tuesday, the SEC announced yesterday that it was instituting a five-year exemption for tokenized stocks, allowing "qualifying venues" to trade the blockchain assets.

Gemini already has a lot of infrastructure in place to take advantage of this regulatory shift and could become a major player in what could be a lucrative new market.

The bottom line

The rule change could change the economics for Gemini, but how large an opportunity this is remains to be seen. At the moment, the company is still struggling, and there's a way to go before it proves it can return money to investors.

Second-quarter 2026 revenue rose 37% to $45.5 million, but exchange revenue fell 38% to $12.5 million as trading volume dropped to $3.8 billion from $11.3 billion. The company's net loss came in above $107 million.
