Recently, the international environmental protection agency Greenpeace and the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute released the “Green Cloud 2026” report. The report points out that in the past few years, energy saving and carbon reduction technology has been widely used in the data center industry; however, for Internet technology companies, energy saving technology alone cannot finally achieve the goal of zero carbon. Even if PUE is reduced to the extreme, it is difficult to structurally reduce carbon emissions generated by energy supply. Whether enterprises can continue to expand the scale and share of green electricity consumption will increasingly become a core variable determining their carbon neutrality process. The report suggests that enterprises can start from the following aspects: first, they should set or improve carbon neutrality targets for 100% renewable energy consumption and operation by 2030 as soon as possible; second, expand the scale and consumption ratio of the enterprise's green electricity consumption; third, on this basis, further propose carbon neutrality targets covering the entire value chain by 2030 to push suppliers to reduce carbon emissions by improving energy efficiency and consuming green electricity.
