According to a research report published by Morgan Stanley, Cathay Pacific's passenger transportation business normalized in August. In August of this year, passenger kilometers revenue increased 4% year on year, the number of available seat kilometers increased 3.4% year on year, and the passenger load rate remained at a steady level of 87.2%, up 0.5 percentage points year on year. The freight business, on the other hand, is resilient. Management says the increase in freight demand is increasing, supported by demand for semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and inventory replenishment. Damo believes that high aviation fuel prices are still the main obstacle to Cathay Pacific's short-term profits. Looking ahead, management expects passenger demand to slow seasonally in September and improve around National Day Golden Week; freight demand is expected to be supported by high-tech product launches and traditional peak seasons. The bank maintained Cathay Pacific's “gain” rating, with a target price of HK$16.9.
