Listen to the news

While it’s been a great week for MS Group Holdings Limited (HKG:1451) shareholders after stock gained 19%, they should consider it with a grain of salt. Even though stock prices were relatively low, insiders elected to sell HK$61m worth of stock in the last year, which could indicate some expected downturn.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At MS Group Holdings

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when CEO & Executive Director Kwok-Keung Chung bought HK$60m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.80 per share. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of HK$1.45. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Over the last year we saw more insider selling of MS Group Holdings shares, than buying. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
