The Southern Xinjiang Desert Water Search Project implemented by the Hydrological and Environmental Geological Survey Center of the Xinjiang Geological Bureau recently achieved a new breakthrough. Two new large-scale groundwater sources were discovered in Andier Township, Minfeng County, on the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert, and in the southern Mazatag Mountain region in the hinterland of the desert, breaking the traditional perception that “only standing water and saltwater are underground in the desert.”
