European Commission President von der Leyen said on the 16th that the EU will establish a “climate insurance alliance” to deal with increasingly frequent extreme weather events and increase insurance coverage against climate disasters. According to WHO data, Europe is the fastest warming continent in the world, about twice as fast as the global average. This summer, many parts of Europe experienced droughts, wildfires, and multiple rounds of heatwaves, causing casualties and property damage. The EU said that currently only a quarter of the climate-related economic losses in the EU region are covered by insurance. The new insurance plan will try to solve this problem.
