Hong Kong released its first five-year plan. Liu Yijian, the co-chief executive of HSBC Asia and the Middle East, said that the relevant measures to support the development of the gold market in the plan are encouraging, and Hong Kong is in a position to become a regional gold clearing hub and an important gateway for attracting global investors. Liu Yijian pointed out that in 2025, Asia will account for more than 60% of global demand for bullion bars, and the Hong Kong trading session can effectively connect Asian, European and US time zones. It is an ideal platform for spot, forward and swap transactions across time zones, and is particularly suitable for institutional customers using a global strategy. In terms of product innovation, Liao Yijian welcomed the government's use of tokenization technology to promote the development of gold products. He believes that mature gold trading hubs can not only support the storage, trading, clearing and settlement of gold, but also drive the development of financial product ecosystems such as gold loans, inventory financing, and risk management tools. Liu Yijian stressed that as the world's largest offshore RMB center, Hong Kong has a unique advantage in developing renminbi-denominated gold products, and expects Hong Kong to establish a large-scale gold market that meets internationally recognized risk management and control standards.
