China's new canal, the Pinglu Canal, was completed and opened for navigation on the 16th. It will directly open up the shortest, most economical, and most convenient route to the ASEAN region in Guangxi and southwest China. On the same day, the “Nanning Port - Can Tho Port, Vietnam” direct river-sea foreign trade route and the “Nanning Port-Yangpu Port” direct cargo route commenced their maiden voyage. Construction of the Pinglu Canal began on August 28, 2022. It is the first “Tongjiang to the Sea” canal project coordinated at the national level since the founding of New China. It is built according to inland class I waterway standards and can navigate 5,000 ton ships. This canal, with an investment of more than 70 billion yuan and a total length of 134.2 kilometers, runs from the mouth of the Pingtang River in Hengzhou City, Nanning, Guangxi in the north to Luwu Town in Lingshan County, Qinzhou, and enters Beibu Gulf along the Qin River.
