Hogs Post Monday Losses

Lean hog futures closed the day with contracts 97 cents to $1.92 lower on the session. Open interest was up 7,586 contracts on Monday, suggesting new selling interest. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $82.82 on Monday afternoon, down $2.56. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 28 cents on September 10 at $87.94. 

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was down 2 cents in the Monday PM report, at $89.78. The ham was weaker, with the belly the only other primal reported lower, down another $10.33. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was estimated at 492,000 head for Monday. That was 5,841 head above the same week last year.

Oct 26 Hogs  closed at $79.600, down $1.925,

Dec 26 Hogs  closed at $71.250, down $1.450

Feb 27 Hogs  closed at $73.600, down $1.600,
