According to reports, after announcing the cancellation of Apple CarPlay in electric vehicles three years ago, GM is adjusting its in-vehicle infotainment system strategy and will re-integrate CarPlay with Android Auto in the latest system. The new system uses a split screen design to allow drivers to display key vehicle instrument information such as tire pressure, fuel gauge, and Super Cruise while using a mobile phone to reduce screen switching. Michael Wallström, GM's executive director of connected applications and services, said that the solution was jointly developed by GM, Apple, and Google to integrate the screen projection experience with the native system. The new interface will be the first to be installed on 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, and is planned to be rolled out to future models. Although GM had previously planned to gradually expand its strategy of cancelling CarPlay to fuel models, Wallström declined to say whether the feature would be reintroduced in electric vehicles. Currently, GM is providing the Apple Music app for electric vehicles that cannot connect to CarPlay through an official Apple agreement.
