National Bureau of Statistics: From January to August, the country's fixed asset investment of 29309.2 billion yuan fell 7.2% year-on-year

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on September 15, the National Bureau of Statistics released the basic situation of national fixed asset investment from January to August 2026. From January to August, the country's fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) was 29309.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 7.2% (based on a comparable scale). Among them, investment in intellectual property products increased 9.2% year over year. By industry, investment in the primary sector was 583.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.4%; investment in the secondary sector was 11309.4 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.9%; and investment in the tertiary sector was 17416.6 billion yuan, a decrease of 9.9%.

The basic situation of national fixed asset investment from January to August 2026

From January to August, the country's fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) was 29309.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 7.2% (based on a comparable scale; see note 7 for details). Among them, investment in intellectual property products increased 9.2% year over year.

By industry, investment in the primary sector was 583.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.4%; investment in the secondary sector was 11309.4 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.9%; and investment in the tertiary sector was 17416.6 billion yuan, a decrease of 9.9%. 

Industrial investment declined 2.9% year over year. Among them, investment in mining increased by 3.4%, investment in manufacturing decreased by 2.3%, and investment in electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply decreased by 6.9%.

Infrastructure investment (see note 1 for details) decreased by 4.0% year over year. Among them, investment in the information transmission industry increased by 28.4%, investment in the air transport industry increased by 16.7%, and investment in the water transport industry increased by 14.7%.

By region, investment in the eastern region fell 9.4% year on year, investment in the central region fell 8.7%, investment in the western region fell 8.8%, and investment in the northeast region fell 25.5%. 

By registration statistics category, fixed asset investment by domestic enterprises decreased by 7.1% year on year, fixed asset investment by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan investors decreased by 6.9%, and fixed asset investment by foreign-invested enterprises decreased by 4.3%.

From January to August, private fixed asset investment fell 10.1% year on year. On a month-on-month basis, fixed asset investment (excluding rural households) fell 0.5% in August.
