On September 14, local time, the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency approved East Timor's application for membership. East Timor will become the 182nd member of the Agency. Timor-Leste has previously applied to join the International Atomic Energy Agency and was recommended by the Agency's Board of Governors. After approval by the General Assembly, East Timor also needs to deposit an instrument of acceptance of the International Atomic Energy Agency statute, and officially become a member state after completing the relevant procedures.
