08:53 AM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Germany is reportedly looking at potential new tariffs on Chinese hybrid vehicles as part of plans to toughen its trade policy with China to safeguard its key industries, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing people familiar with the plans. Several German ministries are evaluating countermeasures to possible vulnerabilities to China, according to the report. The package of measures being prepared also includes proposals related to joint ventures, screening for inbound and outbound investments, and critical raw materials, among others. Sources said the German government aims to have cabinet approval of the proposed measures on Oct. 14 before presenting it to the European Union, ahead of talks with Beijing between the bloc and Beijing scheduled later that month, Bloomberg noted. Germany's economy ministry told MT Newswires it does not comment on press reporting as a matter of principle. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
