Many netizens later posted on social platforms that criminals had stolen their credit cards to buy iPhones, involving credit cards such as HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank. The Hong Kong police initially characterized the case as a fraudulent financial infringement case. As of 5 p.m. on September 14, the police had received a total of 1,209 reports from the public. The total amount involved was about HK$25 million. The case is still under investigation.
