MLCC leader Murata plans to increase the production capacity of multilayer ceramic capacitors, which are indispensable for AI servers, by 20% from the current level in fiscal year 2028. In an interview, Murata Vice President Yasufumi Minamide said, “With an eye to the next 3 to 5 years, the company is discussing and evaluating plans to expand production capacity, including the plant. I think this assessment will be bolder than ever before. At present, the final plan has not been finalized internally, but it has already entered the stage of in-depth verification. Building large-scale factories at domestic and overseas factories is one of the optional routes.” It is expected that the growth in MLCC demand for AI will continue until at least 2028. In the medium to long term, the market will expand from AI data centers as infrastructure to end side AI devices.
