AstraZeneca Says Lung Cancer Drug Tagrisso Sustains Overall Survival Benefit

11:51 PM EDT, 09/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- AstraZeneca (AZN.L, AZN.ST) said Tagrisso maintained a significant overall survival benefit eight years after surgery in patients with early-stage epidermal growth factor receptor-mutated non-small cell lung cancer, or EGFRm NSCLC. The updated exploratory data from the phase 3 Adaura trial, which evaluated the drugmaker's Tagrisso as an adjuvant treatment for EGFRm NSCLC after complete tumor resection, were presented on Monday, according to a same-day release. Following an eight-year follow-up, data showed that Tagrisso cut the risk of death by 47% versus placebo among patients with stage II-IIIA EGFRm NSCLC, with an overall survival hazard ratio of 0.53. In the overall trial population, the risk of death was reduced by 48%, with a hazard ratio of 0.52. Meanwhile, an estimated 74% of patients in the primary population who received Tagrisso remained alive after eight years, compared with 58% of those receiving placebo. In the overall trial population, the estimated eight-year survival rate was 79% for Tagrisso versus 64% for placebo.
