Listen to the news

The Zhitong Finance App learned that according to TrendForce Jibang Consulting's latest IC design industry research, with the expansion of AI-related applications, demand for GPUs, CPUs, ASICs, interconnect products, etc. rose, driving the total annual revenue of the world's top ten waferless IC designers to increase 73% per year in the second quarter of 2026, exceeding US$141.45 billion. NVIDIA (Nvidia) is at the top of the list, and AMD (Super Power) has benefited from the increase in CPU proxy AI applications and climbed to third place in the ranking. Qualcomm (Qualcomm) retreated to fourth place due to the weakening of the mobile phone business.

NVIDIA's second-quarter revenue increased 99% a year to nearly US$91.16 billion, accounting for 64% of the top ten companies' revenue. In addition to large-scale cloud service providers as their main customers, Neo Cloud customers, sovereign AI, and enterprise customers also contributed significantly to revenue.

TrendForce Jibang Consulting said that Nvidia recently participated in ASIC-related markets by expanding the NVLink Fusion ecosystem. Examples include investing in MediaTek (MediaTek) to help customized XPU customers strengthen interoperability with existing NVIDIA infrastructure and lay out future automotive AI fields. The previous investment in Marvell (Meiman Electronics) also included NVLink Fusion in the cooperative project.

Proxy AI enhances the strategic position of CPUs, and optical interconnection becomes the key to expanding computing power

Broadcom (Broadcom) ranked second in revenue for the second quarter. OpenAI's first ASIC and Google (Google) TPU 8i, which it helped design, began shipping this season, and the Netcom business also grew rapidly along with XPU. The annual revenue increase reached 112%, over US$18.89 billion. The six major customized chip customers, including Frontier Model (Frontier Model) developers such as Anthropic and OpenAI, will continue to drive their XPU demand.

Thanks to the advent of the proxy AI era, AMD ranked third, the importance of CPUs once again increased, with second-quarter revenue exceeding US$11.53 billion. Its data center CPU revenue has hit new highs for five consecutive quarters, and continues to increase its market share in the X86 server field.

Rapid growth in connectivity demand boosted Marvell's second-quarter revenue to $2.63 billion, ranking sixth. Its PAM4 DSP chip is leading the industry. Demand for 800G DSP is strong, and 1.6T DSP is rapidly being deployed; the customized business has also reached a cooperation agreement with Google, which will bring significant contributions in the 2029 fiscal year.

Mobile chip giants expand AI field layout

Although Qualcomm's mobile phone chip business is still in an adjustment period in the second quarter, and the share of next-generation iPhone modem chips also declined, the automotive market has maintained double digit growth for 23 consecutive quarters, with revenue exceeding 8.5 billion US dollars. Recently, Qualcomm also returned to the data center business to accelerate the diversification of the QCT division.

MediaTek's revenue was also affected by the mobile phone business, which was around US$4.81 billion, ranking fifth. However, the company revised its AI ASIC business outlook. It is estimated that data center revenue will exceed 2 billion US dollars in 2026, and the size of the ASIC serviceable market will increase to 80 billion US dollars in 2028.

Consumer IC design manufacturers benefit from early delivery momentum and continue to find the next revenue highlight

Realtek (Realtek) had second-quarter revenue of nearly $1.19 billion, ranking seventh. Since PC performance is expected to continue to slow in the second half of 2026, the plan is to use existing strong IPs to enter the server market, such as 10G Ethernet, server control plane switches, etc.

MPS (Core Source System)'s main growth engine comes from AI-related power management solutions, with revenue of US$981 million this quarter, ranking eighth. The company continues to expand production capacity to support its transformation into a semiconductor solutions provider.

Novatek (Lianyong) had revenue of 907 million US dollars this quarter, ranking 9th. The main reason for revenue growth was the continuation of momentum for customers to pull goods early. SoC chips account for more than 50% of revenue, and will continue to invest in machine vision SoC-related applications such as Edge AI in the future.

OmniVision (Howell Group) ranked 10th with semiconductor design revenue of US$838 million this quarter. Emerging applications such as action cameras are growing strongly, and analog ICs have deployed optical communication EICs, including chips such as TIA and drivers.
