Ripple Expands Beyond Crypto Payments With AI System 'GSmart'

Ripple on Thursday expanded GSmart, an AI layer built into Ripple Treasury, adding policy-governed capabilities across forecasting, liquidity, risk, reconciliation and reporting.

Ripple said GSmart is already in production across its enterprise customer base and is designed to help finance teams make faster treasury decisions without giving up governance, auditability or human oversight.

Unlike general-purpose AI systems, GSmart separates financial calculations from AI interpretation of treasury policies, identifying patterns and explaining recommendations.

Humans retain final approval over every financial action.

"Rather than asking customers to blindly trust an AI system, GSmart works within each organization’s own treasury policies to surface recommendations transparently," said Renaat Ver Eecke, SVP of Ripple Treasury.

Gartner estimates the average Fortune 500 company could use more than 150,000 AI agents by 2028, while only 13% of organizations believe they have adequate governance.

The gap creates an opportunity for Ripple to offer treasury AI.

How GSmart Works

Ripple said 60% of eligible customers use Risk Insights, while 44% use Forecast Insights. The company sees GSmart as part of its push to combine traditional and digital-asset treasury management on a single platform.

The expanded platform includes orchestrated AI agents for forecasting, liquidity management, risk, reconciliation and reporting.

Each agent monitors a process, proposes an action, cites the relevant policy behind the recommendation and waits for approval before anything is executed.

Ripple also introduced Knowledge Studio, which allows treasury teams to define the policies and controls governing AI behavior.

Its Analytics Studio includes Ask GSmart, a conversational assistant designed to help treasury teams retrieve answers and insights from their financial data.
