We learned from the Immigration Management Cooperation Sub-Forum of the 2026 Conference of the Global Public Safety Cooperation Forum held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu on September 10 that from January to August 2026, border inspection authorities across the country recorded 499 million visitors, an increase of 8.7% over the previous year; including 242 million mainland residents, 196 million Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents, and 61.287 million foreigners, up 10%, 8.9%, and 19.5%, respectively. Of the foreigners entering the country, 23.72 million were visa-free, accounting for 77.6%, an increase of 26.8% over the previous year. A total of 28.148 million inbound and outbound means of transportation were inspected, an increase of 15% over the previous year; of these, 665,000 aircraft, 75,000 trains, 306,000 ships, and 27.102 million motor vehicles, up 0.5%, 5.6%, 4.1%, and 15.6%, respectively.
