US officials said that senior White House advisers have privately proposed to President Trump that the war against Iran may drag on to the rest of his term. This is contrary to Trump's public statement of quick victory. Officials said that during discussions between the president's office and war room, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and others mentioned to the president that under the blockade and other military measures, Tehran may continue to resist pressure from the US side, and the conflict may continue until after the inauguration date in January 2029. As this closed-door discussion took place, Trump told reporters on Wednesday that the war would end “immediately” after the November midterm elections, “because they won't last long.”
