One in five Floridians has unclaimed money, and Reclaim.org explains why residents still need to act under the state's newly enacted law
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida returned more than $847 million in unclaimed money during CFO Blaise Ingoglia's first year in office, from July 2025 to July 2026. Yet the most recent statewide total, published March 17, 2026, showed Florida still holding more than $4.5 billion across 13 million-plus claimable accounts, and the state's official portal says one in five Floridians has unclaimed money.

Florida's newly enacted Senate Bill 1452 is intended to make more of that money visible to residents. Signed on June 26, 2026, the law strengthens notification requirements, adds certified-mail notices for property worth $1,000 or more and requires financial property valued at $10 or more to be listed on the state's searchable website. However, it does not automatically return the money.
Residents must still search for their assets, establish ownership, prepare the required documentation, and file a claim. Reclaim.org helps Floridians understand what the new law means, identify potential claims and navigate the steps required to recover eligible funds held by the state.
"Record returns are encouraging, but the billions of dollars still unclaimed show how much money has yet to reach its rightful owners," said Ricky Maldonado, CEO of Reclaim.org. "The new law should make unclaimed money easier to find and notices harder to miss, but locating it is only the first step. Reclaim.org helps people understand what is required, prepare the right documentation, and move their claim forward."
That guidance can be particularly valuable for claims involving deceased owners, heirs or dissolved businesses, which may require additional documentation and be more difficult to resolve than a straightforward individual claim.
Florida by the Numbers
Floridians who believe they may have money waiting can search the state's official database at FLTreasureHunt.gov. Residents who have received a notice or want help understanding the recovery process and required documentation can visit www.reclaim.org.
