Among them, cities rose 0.8%, rural areas rose 0.7%; food prices fell 1.4%, non-food prices rose 1.2%; consumer goods prices rose 0.8%; and service prices rose 0.8%. On average from January to August, national consumer prices rose 0.9% over the same period last year. In August, consumer prices across the country rose 0.4% month-on-month. Among them, cities rose 0.4%, rural areas rose 0.4%; food prices rose 0.4%, non-food prices rose 0.3%; consumer goods prices rose 0.6%, and service prices rose 0.1%.

Consumer prices rose 0.8% year on year in August 2026
In August 2026, national consumer prices rose 0.8% year on year. Among them, cities rose 0.8%, rural areas rose 0.7%; food prices fell 1.4%, non-food prices rose 1.2%; consumer goods prices rose 0.8%, and service prices rose 0.8%. On average from January to August, national consumer prices rose 0.9% over the same period last year.
In August, consumer prices across the country rose 0.4% month-on-month. Among them, cities rose 0.4%, rural areas rose 0.4%; food prices rose 0.4%, non-food prices rose 0.3%; consumer goods prices rose 0.6%, and service prices rose 0.1%.
I. Year-on-year changes in prices of various goods and services
In August, food, tobacco, alcohol and food and beverage prices fell 0.7% year on year, affecting the CPI (Consumer Price Index) decline by about 0.21 percentage points. Among food products, livestock and meat prices fell 5.1%, affecting the CPI decline by about 0.21 percent, of which pork prices fell 11.8%; fresh vegetable prices fell 2.8%, affecting the CPI decline by about 0.05 percentage points; milk prices fell 1.4%, affecting the CPI decline by about 0.01 percent; aquatic product prices fell 0.6%, affecting the CPI decline by about 0.01 percent; and egg prices rose 15.0%, affecting the CPI increase by about 0.07 percent.
Prices in the other seven categories rose and fell six times over the same period last year. Among them, prices of other goods and services, medical care, transportation and communication increased by 7.3%, 2.7% and 2.5%, respectively; prices of education, culture and entertainment, clothing, household goods and services increased by 1.4%, 1.3%, and 0.7%, respectively; housing prices decreased by 0.3%.
II. Month-on-month changes in prices of various goods and services
In August, food, tobacco, alcohol and food and beverage prices rose 0.3% month-on-month, affecting the CPI increase by about 0.07 percent. Among food products, fresh vegetable prices rose 5.5%, affecting the CPI increase by about 0.09 percent; egg prices rose 2.0%, affecting the CPI rise by 0.01 percent; livestock and meat prices rose 0.9%, affecting the CPI increase by about 0.03 percent, of which pork prices rose 1.3%; fresh fruit prices fell 2.5%, affecting the CPI decline by about 0.05 percent; aquatic product prices fell 0.9%, affecting the CPI decline by about 0.02 percent.
Prices in the other seven categories rose two times over the previous month, three flat, and two fell. Among them, prices of transportation, communications, and other goods and services increased by 1.7% and 1.5% respectively; prices of housing, education, culture, entertainment, and health care all remained flat; and prices of daily necessities, services, and clothing decreased by 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively.
