Oil prices continued to rise. Earlier, the US attacked several Iranian oil tankers near the important crude oil export hub, Halk Island, which led to an escalation of hostilities and raised market concerns about the intensification of transportation disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. WTI crude oil futures climbed above $94 per barrel for the seventh consecutive trading day. Brent crude oil futures closed close to $98 a barrel. According to an American official, the target ship was linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran. This round of attack was in response to Iran's attempt to attack a US warship with a missile. Tehran responded by targeting Jordan with ballistic missiles and warning ships in the Persian Gulf. Iran's state television quoted Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps as reporting that all tanker crew members near the Kuwait and Bahrain terminals should “immediately abandon their ships, whether anchored or docked, because they will be targeted.”
