Lou Crandall, senior economist at Wrightson iCAP, said in a report that the US Treasury may increase the repurchase scale of 10-30 year treasury bonds above the previously announced minimum amount of US$4 billion. The Ministry of Finance “may be unwilling to do only the smallest scale on Wednesday morning,” Crandall wrote, “If it did, it could trigger an adverse market reaction just a few hours before the September 10-year treasury bond auction and the day before the 30-year treasury bond auction. This is clearly not in line with Treasury Secretary Bezent's plans”. Wrightson thought last week that $4 billion to $6 billion was within a reasonable range, but now it seems that $5 billion to $6 billion is a possible starting point for discussions, but Crandall has not ruled out the possibility of a larger scale.
