AstraZeneca's Tozorakimab Shows Statistically Significant Efficacy in Late-stage Trials

08:29 AM EDT, 09/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- AstraZeneca's (AZN.L, AZN.ST) tozorakimab achieved statistically significant and highly clinically meaningful efficacy in reducing moderate and severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, exacerbations. As such, the US Food and Drug Administration accepted the biologics license application for the biopharmaceutical company's tozorakimab as an add-on maintenance treatment for adult patients with COPD, according to a Tuesday filing. The full results from the phase 3 Oberon and Titania trials involved a broad population of COPD patients still experiencing exacerbations while on inhaled standard of care, spanning across blood eosinophil thresholds, including those with baseline eosinophils below 150, regardless of smoking status. The results marked tozorakimab as the first biologic to reduce mucus plugging in this subset.
