An Insider At Sun International Lowered Their Holding Recently

Simply Wall St·09/08/2026 04:06:25
Listen to the news

From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Sun International Limited's (JSE:SUI ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Sun International Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the CFO, Finance Director & Executive Director, Norman Basthdaw, sold R2.1m worth of shares at a price of R46.03 per share. That means that even when the share price was slightly below the current price of R46.47, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 3.6% of Norman Basthdaw's stake. Norman Basthdaw was the only individual insider to sell over the last year. Notably Norman Basthdaw was also the biggest buyer, having purchased R846k worth of shares.

Norman Basthdaw sold a total of 124.94k shares over the year at an average price of R17.69. Insider Ownership Of Sun International

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Sun International insiders own about R2.1b worth of shares (which is 19% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
