US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak said that Washington imposed sanctions on a Turkish financial institution and its two subsidiaries. The measures only targeted the subjects involved, not Turkey itself, nor the country's overall banking system. Barak issued a statement on the X platform saying, “Whether here or in Ankara, if this limited measure were interpreted as a judgment against Turkey, it would be a serious misinterpretation. This is definitely not the case.” Earlier, the US imposed sanctions on the Gold Global Investment Bank and its subsidiaries in order to curb the Iranian economy. The bank denied the allegations on which the sanctions were based.
